Using the double click test
- Click the test area 20 times, slowly, about once a second.
- Do the same with the right button. The context menu is blocked only inside the test area.
- Any fast pair after a single press points to the switch. Reset before testing another mouse.
Reading the results
Each press is counted when the button goes down. Two presses of the same button closer together than the threshold (80 ms by default) count as a fast pair. Clicking fast on purpose triggers it too, so only pairs from single, slow presses matter. Bounces the mouse firmware already filtered out never reach the browser.
Fixes
Try another USB port, a fresh battery and another computer. Turn off macro or remapping software while you test.
If one slow press still gives two clicks on a second computer, the switch is worn. Check the warranty, or replace the switch if you’re comfortable soldering. Changing the double-click speed in your OS won’t fix it.
FAQ
Why is my mouse double clicking by itself?
Usually a worn switch. A weak wireless connection or a macro can do the same. Test slow single presses here, then on another computer, to tell hardware from software.
Can I test right click too?
Yes. Each button is timed separately, so switching between left and right never counts as a fast pair.
What interval means a mouse is faulty?
There’s no fixed cutoff. 80 ms catches most switch chatter, but deliberate fast clicks can land under it too. What matters is two clicks from one slow press.
How do I fix mouse double click?
Rule out software and the connection first. If the problem follows the mouse to another computer, it needs a new switch, a repair or a warranty claim.
